The New Black Leadership Coalition was formed in 2003 as a result of a year long series conversations our Founder Minister Michael Muhammad, had primarily with Dr. Lance Williams. These discussions were all focused on the state of leadership in the Black community. The recurring conclusion of these discussions was that the vital statistics and quality of life for Black people in America have long contradicted the number of elected officials, religious leadership, civil rights leadership, economic resources and social significance of Black people in America. Minister Michael decided to try to get most of Chicago's top young activists in a room together to establish a coalition that would provide a framework for building relationships, networking, planning, strategics and creating accountability. The first formal meeting of The New Black Leadership Coalition was held in July of 2004 at the Hall Branch Library in Chicago. This meeting was called the Leadership Roundtable Discussion. Attendees included: Tio Hardiman, Min. Rahim Aton, Kelly Brown, Dr. Lyn Hughes, Joseph Watkins, Enoch Muhammad, Dr. Kim Dulaney, Greg Sain, Syron Smith, Chairman Fred Hampton, Jr., Chris Moore, Kwesi Harris, Ernest Muhammad, Stephen White, Bart Beals, Roland Davis, Revin Fellows, Lavese Smith, Joe Ann Bradley, Mark Carter, Johnnie Cole Muhammad, Kelly Brown, Bro. DeAngelo and Joseph Watkins. In 2005, The New Black Leadership held it's first publicmass meeting titled: The State of Black Leadership in August of 2003 and Black Family Day in February of 2004.
